Her goal is to be fair and impartial and make sure both sides have an opportunity to be heard. There are many emotional dynamics in assault family violence cases. She believes it is important to have good judicial temperament with attorneys who appear before the court as well as those who are accused of an offense or who are filing cases in her court.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Prairie View A&M University and a J.D. degree from Texas Southern University. She has received numerous honors and awards, including being named as the outstanding Judge of the year by the J.L. Turner Legal Association in Dallas, Texas. She is a member of the Junior League of Dallas, the Lions Club, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and St. John Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas. She serves as a judge for the National High School mock trial competition, mentors youth in the community and speaks at schools and events throughout the metroplex.
Project Parent
County Criminal Court #11, utilizes a program called Project Parent, which assists men who have been charged with an assault family violence offense, to be better fathers to their children.
The program has two components. The first is a group program that meets once a week for 12 weeks and focuses on fathers having more rewarding relationships with their children. The second involves participating in interviews with the father and child to evaluate how the program can best assist each individual father-child relationship.
Men who participate have at least one child between the ages of 4 and 10 yrs. old.
